Common Problems:

Nothing Happens when trying to do email with JoMail

There are a couple of reasons that this may occur.

1) JoMail may have a bug which causes it to fail.

2) The Mail provider may be down. Try to check in a browser.

Before giving up, a couple of things can be tried:

If you were trying Get Mail, then click the button again. Some glitches are resolved in this manner.
The first time JoMail is run, it may take longer to get your mail -- this is because JoMail has to look for mail the first time through.
Make sure that you have email messages in your inbox. JoMail may fail to get your email messages because there are none there.
Most of the free email services are very slow in their reponses. Quite often JoMail is waiting for them to send information. Once your messages start downloading to your computer things should speed up a little.

3) Follow the instructions for the next problem. (Change the Get New Messages option...) For some services, this will get your mail.

JoMail will only get 1 or 2 messages, but I would like the rest.

There are a couple of reasons that this may occur.

1)
Try this:

On the file menu click Options -> Add or Edit Email Accounts.
Select the service that you are having problems with from the list on the left.
Click the Advanced button.
Select the option Only Get New Messages. This will tell JoMail to get messages which are after the ones in your inbox.
Click the Save button. This should take care of things. Try and get your messages again.
Go back to the main area and click Get Mail button again. Hopefully, JoMail will get some more of your messages.

2) For some services, JoMail will only get the messages which are displayed on your first page of messages. This is a bug and we are attempting to fix it.

3) Turn off the Only Get New Messages option (see #1) and click Get Mail a bunch of times.

JoMail will not open when I try to run it. JoMail will not open a Folder. JoMail seems to crash at random, often.

JoMail most likely has a problem with the folders where your messages are stored. There are a couple of things to try.

1) If a specific folder is causing you problems:

Exit JoMail. Make sure that it is not running.
Locate the directory where you installed JoMail. Should be C:\JoMail (or ./JoMail) by default.
Open the JoMail\Mail (JoMail/Mail) folder.
Delete the folder.jml file associated with the problematic folder.
Try to Start JoMail again and see if this fixes the problem.

2) It is possible that JoMail is unable to load because 1 or more folders are corrupted. Repeat #1 for every folder in your Mail directory. This should reset all of your folders for you.

FYI: JoMail uses the Unix MBOX file format to save messages. You should be able to import your mail into other email programs.

JoMail will only get message header information (i.e. From:, Subject:,...), but not the body of the message.

Try this:

On the file menu click Options -> Add or Edit Email Accounts.
Select the service that you are having problems with from the list on the left.
Click the Advanced button.
Select the option Retrieve Entire Message Page. This will tell JoMail to get the entire webpage where your mail is. You might get some extra information but you should get your mail.
Click the Save button. This should take care of things. Try and get your messages again.

JoMail does nothing when I am trying to get my mail. Does JoMail work for my email provider?.

This is the best thing that you can try to see if JoMail will work for your email provider:

On the file menu click Options.
Select the option Add or Edit Email Accounts. A window should open.
Select your email address from the list on the right.
Look for the Login Page (URL): option.
Put the location of the page where you login from your browser in the Login Page field.
Try to Get Mail with JoMail.

Another thing to check is that you have your login exactly as your email servie expects it. Some services require that you enter your entire email address in order to login.

JoMail worked for a while on my service and then it just stopped.

Most likely, your email service has changed something that JoMail can't handle. You need to update JoMail. Come to our website and download the latest version of JoMail. If it still doesn't work, then try to submit a bug report and we will make it a priority to fix it.

How do I uninstall JoMail?

JoMail un-installation is fairly simple. JoMail does not create any Registry or hidden entries on your computer. To uninstall JoMail, find the directory where you installed the program and delete it. You should have been prompted for this directory when you installed the program. That's it! If you installed on Windows, then you may have to delete an icon on your desktop and another one on your start menu.

TroubleShooting- If you are having problems with using JoMail. Try the following (this will basically start you over and erase your email from your local harddrive):

Go to the JoMail folder
Look for a file named Clean.bat
Double click on Clean.bat
Close the annoying black window

This effectively erases all information about your preferences and services, which erases any errors JoMail made in saving this information.

When retrieving mail, and nothing happens for a long time, try and press the Get Mail button again. Again, there are a few bugs.
